Studio Internships with Red Onion Press

Karen is a current Studio Intern at Red Onion Press. She is a student at Kennesaw State University with a double major in Graphic Design and Animation. She is interested in learning to use traditional letterpress equipment in combination with her digital and design background. We are very pleased to welcome her to our team for this Fall.

Internship Description:

Interns work with our Founder/ President of the Board, Executive Director, Education Director, Instructors, and members of the Steering Committee to prepare and execute projects in all areas of operation.

 

Interns’ Responsibilities May Include:

  • Assist with day-to-day studio operations

  • Assist in facilitating safe use of the shop, materials, and equipment

  • Assist with cleaning, stocking supplies, and maintaining inventory, facilities, and equipment

  • Assist with exhibition installations

  • Assist with workshops, classes, and events

  • Assist in fine art printmaking and letterpress publishing projects

  • Assist with the repair and restoration of printmaking presses

  • Assist in promoting printmaking to the community through our web site, social media platforms, and events

 

Intern Requirements:

All interns must commit to 10-15 hours per week for 10-12 weeks. Regular working hours fall between 10 am-4 pm, Tuesday to Thursday, and 10 am-6pm, Saturdays. Some additional responsibilities may fall in the evenings for specific classes or events. The Executive Director will work with you to set a regular schedule. Please give serious consideration to whether your schedule allows for you to make this commitment. 

 

Don’t let a lack of printmaking experience deter you from applying.

 Willingness to learn, dependability, and working well as part of a team are the most important. An interest in printmaking and letterpress, organizational skills, and attention to detail are very appreciated. Note: Interns must have reliable transportation.

Internship Duration:

 Minimum of 10 weeks. May serve consecutive terms.

 

Application Deadlines:

  • For September-December: We are accepting applications on a rolling basis for current interns until positions are filled

  • For January-May: December 1

  • For June-August: May 1

Work Schedule:

Daytime hours,10 am-4pm, Tuesday through Thursday, and 10 am-6pm, Saturdays. Occasional evening hours for classes or events. We will work with motivated interns to try and set a schedule that works for all parties.

 

Compensation:

Studio access for qualified interns, discounts on workshops and classes, invitations to events and demonstrations, and discounted monthly studio access for a full year after completing the internship. Interns may offer printmaking artwork for sale in our retail gallery, participate in group exhibitions, and/or apply for academic credit.* Interns will gain an inside look into the operation of a fine art printmaking and letterpress studio, exposure to the inner workings of a start-up non-profit organization, and hands-on knowledge of fine art publishing and professional practices.
